Birdfair 2010

Let’s meet up at Birdfair

I will be at Rutland – The Birdfair – this weekend of Saturday and Sunday (21st and 22nd August).  I will be wearing something with Shetland Nature on.

Be great to meet – please say hello if you see me. Happy to chat talk about talks I do or Discovery Days– guided birding days out.

Me on Lamba Ness, Unst. July 2010. A smoky ‘Blue Maalie’ flew past in a stream of Fulmars as we watched from here.

Congratulations on a superb blog Martin. I’ve learnt more in the past few weeks reading your articles than in any books around. every time I read an article it makes me get straight out into the field. Enjoy the bird fair – I’m off to County Mayo instead to get stuck into seabirds. Keep up the superb work.

Thanks so much for the encouraging words – very ! I love Count Mayo. Found the first Yellow-browed Warbler for Mayo few years back. think there have been a few more now! – don’t forget to check out Rossport. Always reckoned it had big hidden potential. Its where I would go if I was a rare passerine in the area!

Thanks for the advice Martin. I see what you mean, visited Rossport and agree that the area has great potential. Spent a long time grilling 40+ Lesser Redpolls there. Unfortunately the whole area is umder threat from Shell’s new gas pipe which runs straight through he dunes and estuary!
Seawatching from the headlands was a little slow with Sabs Gull the highlight. Managed a pelagic out of Blacksod and enjoyed great views of Long tailed Skua, Pom Skua, Sooty Shears and both Leach’s and Storm Petrels some 30 miles offshore (a good way to put the new Nils book into practice by ageing these birss at close quarters). Great to catch up with the Snowy Owl too. I will certainly return. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Cheers for the update Marc – be a shame to lose Rossport – sounds like you had a pretty good time though!
