Following a very successful event this May the following 3 day guided events are in association with Spurn Bird Observatory:
19th, 20th, 21st July (Tuesday to Thursday)
Focusing on large number of returning waders (often considerable variety of species on visible migration). E.g. Knot, Sanderling, Whimbrel and thousands of Dunlin. Rare waders are often found at this time. There can be good numbers of Swifts moving; Crossbills moving some years and evening Tern roost fly –bys may include Roseate and Black Terns. In suitable weather sea birds such as Skuas and Shearwaters are seen.
31st August and 1st/ 2nd Sept. (Wednesday to Friday)
Autumn migration well underway and almost anything can happen! Migration of Duck species from the Baltic. Large evening Tern roosts can number thousands of birds and the possibility of rare drift migrants and “falls” of commoner species such as Pied Flycatcher and Redstart (Collared Flycatcher last year!)
19th/20th/21st Sept. (Monday to Wednesday) (ALMOST fully booked)
Probably closer to best week for rarities but you never know. Its Spurn in the third week of September. A chance of birds like Yellow-browed Warblers, Richards Pipits and even rarer species. Movements of commoner birds like Meadow Pipits can be phenomenal.
As before accommodation with Sue and Andrew at Westmere Farm based on shared room, full board including cooked breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal. They have also agreed to leave the farmhouse fully vacant on the night prior to the start day, should you wish to arrive and have an extra nights’ accommodation.
